Falling has a cinematic release, but you can also watch it at home. A long time in the making, Falling sees Lance Henriksen play the homophobic Willis, who is forced to move in with his gay son when he starts to exhibit signs of dementia. Then, perhaps even more impressively on a certain level, Edith is joined by Viggo Mortensen, who not only wrote and directed, but also starred in, and composed the score for, Falling - his first film behind the camera. Starting Paul Bettany and Sophia Lillas, Uncle Frank tells the story of a gay man forced to confront his past on a road trip with his niece, and has all the wit and nuance of Alan's previous stellar work.

Alan Ball has now written and directed a little gem of a movie in the shape of Uncle Frank, which you can watch on Amazon Prime. Sound of Metal is available to watch on Amazon Prime from 12th April, and is coming to cinemas on 17th May.Ĭhristmas continues to come early on Soundtracking, as once again we have two guests for you instead of one.įirst up, a bit of a legend in our mind, given that he scripted both American Beauty and Six Feet Under. We also have to thank Abe for furnishing us with his yet-to-be-released music from the film, and Matthew at Nonesuch Records, who gave us the all clear to use it. We'll hear separately from Darius's brother, Abe, who not only co-wrote the script, but also had the tricky job of articulating Ruben's descent into silence sonically as a composer on the movie. Nominated for six Oscars and four BAFTAs, including shouts from both for the extraordinary Riz Ahmed as best actor, Sound of Metal tells the story of a drummer, Ruben, who is going deaf - with all the emotional trauma that entails.Īnd Riz is one of our three guests, alongside director and co-writer, Darius Marder, who's in the hunt for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards, among other accolades. No, it's a 'three-for' this week, as we explore the wonder that is Sound of Metal. Compared to what they used to be.We don't just have one guest for you on our latest episode of Soundtracking - or even two. My feelings on BBC generally have sunk lower and lower in recent times but this is just about killing them off as far as I'm concerned. alas there are various other progs that I've used get_iplayer to pick up for me after the b'cast and many.indeed VERY many. even though it's actually running the program but I get "Invalid Page" and with the very same actual PID page ref that is showing on the actual show page itself in my Chrome Browser (which is the one set in get_iplayer for me).the prog is actually running but the iplayer prog is just not accepting it and stupidly saying it is Invalid. STILL got nowhere so I've now gone back to the latest or later 1.8.1. so I went back to the program version 1.6.1 which I think it was prior to my latest update. I just cannot get such as the above which I've had faultlessly before. After I started getting literally no responses to shows that I had with no trouble at all up to last week (I'd then updated the get-iplayer to the latest ver 1.8.1). put this PID in yours and tell me what you get.The program plays fine on my computer.and the same program I've just got the d/load in the ordinary way (not using PID) for 6 or more months.but even with the page open and the program either running or gives me a "No programs found. At least, that's how it's working for me.ĭo me a favour. You only need to find the programme in the iPlayer page for programmes older than 7 days. This isn't correct - I'm still accessing the programmes in the same way. So you need to use the iplayer web page to find the program you want and copy the URL, or just the PID (the bit in the URL with the 'hex' number) and use that with get_iplayer -pid=0b1a2d3d4e Now you can only access the programs if you know the URL or the PID. This is not a get_iplayer problem, the BBC have changed how they make the data available and there is not the cache of programs any more.
